Marketing Champions

Want to learn how to celebrate a champion with engaging marketing? Read On…

Earlier this month, Naomi Osaka became the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam singles tennis tournament, defeating Serena Williams in the final of the 2018 US Open. It was then announced that she was reportedly set to sign Adidas’ biggest deal with a female athlete worth an estimated $8.5M/yr, potentially making her one of the highest-paid women in sports.

Imagine the endless hours of training it has taken for her to become a master at her craft, beginning at a young age. Imagine the sacrifices, determination, challenge, frustration..these are feelings many people can relate to…and it helps that Naomi’s appeal in part is repeatedly attributed to her openness and relatability.

How do you celebrate what it took for her to get here? Picture this:

Snapshot clip - it’s Naomi as a teen. Her alarm goes off, early morning, still dark outside, she’s up and training. Snapshot clip - other teens her age, sleeping in. Snapshot clip - after school, its Naomi training, sweat dripping down her face in the hot sun, grunting with each swing of her racket. Snapshot clip - its teens having fun at the beach as they can be heard chatting it up and laughing. With each clip we see an older version of Naomi. Next clip, Naomi doing drills, contrast with clip of teens at a party with music blasting. Last clip, Naomi winning the Grand Slam singles tournament. With each clip of her, “Strength, Determination, Sacrifice” come on the screen, and the last screen reads “Adidas.”
